Creative Futures 3 - Invoices and Websites

This lecture was actually part of the previous lecture. I split the notes into two. This post will be about invoices and websites, however next week, we will hopefully talk about them in more detail.

So first, invoices. Why do we need them?

Invoices are a formal way of asking someone for money. Companies need invoices, so they can file them and keep track of their accounts. Without an invoice, they won't pay you.

What should you include in an invoice:

• Your details - name, address, email, maybe even a logo
• The date you sent the invoice
• Their details - company, address
• Exactly what you're invoicing them for - project title and project description
• Invoice number - their initials and the year. If it was for John Smith on 23/01/2016, the code would be JS 160123
• A table with a break-down of all the work you did for them
• Cheques payable to...
• Sort code and account number
• Your signature

Now websites. What about websites?

Websites allow you to present yourself professionally. There is no such thing as a free website, if it is free then you are the product they're selling. Websites can either be very expensive or very cheap. Generally, the more expensive a website is to make, the easier it is for you to make. Conversely, the cheaper a website is to make, the more difficult it is to make. 

This week I will be writing a practice invoice to my lecturer and I will be researching websites that allow you to make websites. - that made more sense in my head.
