Creative Futures - Being Visible

Why should you be visible? If no one sees your work, it basically doesn't exist

Important do's and do not's for invoices:

  • Do not send the invoice in a blank email - it seems rude
  • Do explain any errors - if you need to resend the invoice, explain what has changed
  • Do name files sensibly - not just invoice.pdf, include your name, the invoice number and the project title.
  • Do be polite
  • Do a spelling and grammar check
  • Do use your branding - make the invoice fun and look attractive.
You should use social media to support your visibility:
  • Post interesting insights
  • Be generous
  • Support your peers
  • Show works-in-progress
  • Be funny
Remember that you are a brand. Your work isn't just judged by the quality of it, but also by your reputation. Read out anything you write in a sarcastic voice, before you post it.

What about websites?

They are a current and up-to-date view of your work, they can be a blog of how-to posts that present you as an expert and they give people a way to contact you. However, websites also need to work on multiple devices and they shouldn't need weird plug-ins to work.

If a visitor to your website needs to use more than three clicks or more than thirty seconds to find what they are looking for on your website, they will likely leave. They will also probably leave if the site is confusing or confused.
