Dick Powell - Designing Innovation
Dick Powell says that design is about making things better. For most of his talk, he spoke about things that his company had helped to innovate and design, but there were some things that I could apply to my own practice.
According to him, one main reason for innovation or creativity to fail is that the industry has trouble embracing change. A company has to rewire itself to accommodate change and if they don't change, they may miss an opportunity.
Dick says that innovation is rarely about a big idea; more usually it is a series of small ideas bought together in a new and different way. Design is about creating new paradigms and things that don't already exist.
The most important thing I have taken from this talk is that you should ask 'why not?', everyone else asks 'why?'.
