Katie May Green - Children's Book Illustrator
Katie May Green spoke about her book "Seen and Not Heard" and how she worked on it. She believes that observational drawings helped her with improving her style and to free her ideas.
Her characters in "Seen and Not Heard" have a wide range of costumes as they are from different eras. She tries to give the characters costumes and shapes that add to the character's personality. She does lots of research into costumes and draws all of the characters next to each other to see their sizes in comparison to each other. She also draws studies of the characters' feet to make the shoes more detailed and more believable.
This talk encouraged me to work on my work more and to persevere with books if I think they are good.
